Editing and autosave
Changes save on their own about a second and a half after you stop typing. A small status chip at the bottom right says Unsaved changes, Saving…, Saved, or Couldn’t save with a Retry button. Each save is a new version. Closing the window or leaving the page saves anything pending first. If Allternit changes the artifact while you have it open (it saved a new version from a chat), the editor shows that version. If you and someone else save at the same moment, the window asks whether to keep yours or use theirs.Docs
The Docs editor handles headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, underline, strike, code, colors, lists, tables, images and dividers. Docs that arrive as Markdown (an import, or text Allternit wrote) open in the editor and are saved as a Docs file on your first edit.Slides
The Slides editor shows a slide list and a canvas. Click a text box to edit, drag to move, drag a corner to resize, and drag slides in the list to reorder.Sheets
The Sheets editor is a grid with formulas, ranges, merged cells, column and row sizing, and several sheets per file.Design
A Design artifact opens on the same canvas as Design mode. Each artboard is a frame; text, shapes, components and UI blocks sit on the artboards. The Layers panel lists everything on the canvas, and the Properties panel edits the selected layer (fill, border, corner radius, shadow, layout). The Design system menu above the canvas records which design system the design follows. Changes autosave as versions, like the other editors. Select a layer and use Edit selection (or the adjustment box in the Properties panel) to ask Allternit to change only that layer. Comments attach to the selected layer, and clicking On the layer … in the Comments panel selects it on the canvas. Designs made before the canvas editor, and designs a model wrote as an HTML page, open as a read-only preview with a Convert to canvas button. Converting puts the page on one artboard as a single HTML layer, shown in a sandboxed frame: scripts in a design can’t read your Allternit data. Standalone Design mode is unchanged.Edit with Allternit
Select some text, some cells, a slide or a text box, then click Edit selection (without a selection the button reads Edit with Allternit). Type what should change, for example “make this paragraph shorter” or “total this column”. Allternit gets the exact selection and your instruction, reads the artifact, and saves a new version that changes only that part. The version is marked as written by Allternit. The request goes to the chat or Cowork session the artifact is open beside. If the artifact is open somewhere with no conversation (for example from the Artifacts tab), the button tells you to open it from a chat.Versions and who made them
Editors see a Versions menu (the clock icon). Each version says You, A collaborator or By Gizzi. Open any version to look at it; Back to latest returns to the current one. Older versions open read-only.Present (Slides)
Press Present in the window header to show the deck full screen, one slide at a time. Use the arrow keys, Space or Page Up/Down to move, Home and End for the first and last slide, 1–9 to jump, F for full screen and Esc to stop. On a phone, tap the right half of the screen for the next slide and the left half for the previous one.Export
Open the Download menu (the arrow next to Copy) in the window header.
PDF export opens your browser’s print dialog; choose Save as PDF.
Google Docs and Google Slides need Google Drive connected under
Connectors. Allternit uploads the file to your Drive, converts it to a Google
file, removes the temporary upload and opens the new file in a tab.
Tabs (Docs)
Press + Add tab above a doc to split it into tabs. Double-click a tab to rename it; the × next to the open tab deletes it. Each tab edits on its own, and exports, the read-only view and Allternit see the whole doc, tab by tab.On a phone
On the phone layout and the m.allternit.com app the artifact opens full screen. Docs, Slides and Design are editable; Sheets open as a grid where you can change cells. A Design opens on the canvas without the drawing toolbar: tap to select, drag to move, double-tap text to edit it, and use Layers and Properties (they open as sheets from the bottom). Adding new shapes and drawing are on desktop and the web. Sharing settings are not on the phone: the Share window shows who has access and says to manage sharing on desktop or the web.For developers
- Body formats:
application/vnd.allternit.doc+jsonis the editor document ({title, blocks}) plus amarkdownrendering;sheet+jsonis the workbook ({name, sheets}) plus the first sheet as arowsmatrix;slides+jsonis the deck ({title, slides}) with each slide’stitleandbodytext added. Design isdesign+jsonwith the canvas document below, or the oldertext/html/design+json{html}page (read-only until converted). Loaders and savers are inallternit-ai/src/lib/artifacts/editors/(doc-body.ts,sheet-body.ts,slides-body.ts,design-canvas.ts,design-body.ts), each with tests. Models can write the simpler shapes ({markdown},{columns, rows},{slides:[{title, bullets}]}); the loaders accept them. - The editors are the existing packs in
src/views/documents/packs, mounted bysrc/components/artifacts/editors/editors.tsxon a scratch document id that is seeded from the artifact body and cleared on close. EverysetStoredModelcall raisesallternit:editor-model-saved, which the window turns into a debounced version save (autosave.ts). - Selection context: sheets and slides raise
allternit:editor-selection; text selections are read from the page. The prompt is built bybuildAskPromptand sent asallternit:artifact-ask, which ChatView and Cowork handle.
Design canvas document
design-frame shapes. A layer’s type is the
studio shape type (design-component, design-uiblock, design-html, or a
canvas shape such as text or geo), x and y are relative to its
artboard (artboard: null places it on the bare canvas), props are the
shape’s props, and array order is stacking order, bottom first. Ids start with
shape:; the loader adds the prefix when a model leaves it out and drops
anything it can’t use. design-canvas.ts maps the document to and from canvas
shapes and renders it to HTML (exports, the read-only viewer) and to an SVG
(PNG export); design-canvas-editor.ts moves it in and out of a live canvas.
DesignCanvasEditor.tsx mounts DesignTldrawCanvas on it (panel variant
and compact props give the phone sheets). Selecting a layer raises
allternit:editor-selection with an element anchor (shapeId, label,
artboard); comments store that anchor, and allternit:artifact-focus-anchor
asks the editor to select it.
